Everyone who wants to be a writer wants to be a successful writer.
A successful writer is someone who not only is a writer, but someone who is a good writer and is also a published writer who earns money from their writing.
In order to become this type of writer, there are two key ingredients you need. And once you have them you’ll blow your own mind with how great you are.
So What Are These Two Ingredients?
1. A love of writing.
2. Practice - a lot of practice.
A Love Of Writing
If you don’t love to write, you’ll never be a good writer. You need to have a love of actually sitting down and writing rather than have a love of simply the idea of being a writer.
When you go to a job interview, the person interviewing you will always ask “so why do you want this job?”
What they’re looking for is your passion for the job because they know that if you don’t love your job, you won’t do it properly because the motivation and enthusiasm won’t be there.
And it doesn’t matter what you do for a living. If you don’t love what you do, you’ll never be good at it.
So make sure it is writing you love and not just the idea of being a writer.
Practice - A Lot Of Practice
To be a successful writer you need to practice your writing skills a lot.
Write often and do it for hours.
If you want to improve in your craft, find some writing written by a writer you admire and who you strive to be as good as/better than.
Then copy out some of their work by hand. Sit down with a pad and pen and copy out their work word for word. Don’t use a computer. You need to FEEL what you’re doing so use a pad and pen/pencil.
This will give you a valuable lesson in how they write. You’ll gain a feel for their style of writing and how they connect their words and ideas together.
Don’t be mistaken in thinking that all you need to do is read their work to get a feel for their style. Write it down. Sit and copy exactly what they do and I guarantee you’ll be amazed at the insight you gain.
And practicing means more than copying out other people’s work.
Every time you write something, submit something or publish something it’s practice. So do more of it.
Write every day. Don’t think that it’s okay to skip a day and not write. Unless you’re the best writer in the world, you need to practice more. And even the world’s best writers never stop writing. In fact, the best writers in the world, write more than anyone.
So keep on writing and do it every day.
If you only write something now and again, you’re not a writer. Writing is just your hobby.
Successful writers love to write and will always do it, no matter how much money they earn. And you need to be the same. Love writing and do it every day, starting today.
